DRUNKEN Adam Coleman racially abused a taxi driver and attacked his vehicle after failing to pay his fare.

Coleman became abusive when taken to a cash machine - and demanded the return of his driving licence, which the cabbie had taken as security.

The 25-year-old kicked the taxi so hard that he caused a dent in the vehicle, and threw torrents of racial abuse at Yasir Sghir.

"The taxi driver was so scared that he drove off, and flagged down a passing police car," district judge Ken Sheraton was told at Wisbech courthouse on Tuesday by prosecutor Marion Bastin.

Coleman, of Field Avenue, Tydd St Giles, admitted causing racially aggravated criminal damage on June 27.

He was also drunk when he took his girlfriend's car, turned it over and collided with two other cars.

Coleman admitted taking a car without the owner's consent on August 21, and driving without insurance or a licence.

"On both occasions he had been drunk, there is obviously a drinking problem there somewhere," solicitor Roger Glazebrook told the judge.

Coleman was given a 12-week suspended jail sentence; during the next year he will be supervised by the probation service and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He was banned from driving for two years.
