Work is underway to remove all asbestos containing materials from the former College of West Anglia site in Wisbech before buildings can be demolished to pave way for a residential development.
In June, each room within each building at the former Horticultural Campus, of Elm High Road, was accessed and inspected for materials suspected to contain asbestos and samples were sent to the lab.
In half of the buildings accessed (six out of 12), including the main block, asbestos was found.
MAN Environmental Ltd, an accredited asbestos removal contractor, carried out the initial survey and will also remove and dispose of all asbestos containing materials. They got to work on August 27.
Foster Property Maintenance intends to flatten the site and re-build it as homes.
