A student from Wisbech sped ahead from the competition to scoop the title of the College of West Anglia’s motor vehicle student of the year.

Liam Carey was presented with his award by local hardware suppliers AT Johnson, who have been providing prizes for top students as part of the college’s partnership with the company.

18-year-old Liam received a socket set for his performances throughout the academic year, and many other smaller prizes were handed out to other students who also impressed.

David Fannan, course director for level three motor vehicle said: “It was really difficult to choose one overall winner from all of our outstanding students this year, but Liam was consistent throughout the year and therefore shone through.

“It’s wonderful that AT Johnson are able to sponsor the prizes for the students of the month and the socket set for Liam as student of the year, as they’re really worthwhile gifts the students will be able to go on and use when they go in to work.”

Howard Burton, Stores Manager of AT Johnson, said: “The relationship we have forged with the college is of mutual benefit. We have been able to ask several of our suppliers - including Mahle and Federal Mogul - in to deliver technical seminars and demonstrations for the students so we know that they are able to keep completely up to date with the latest car technologies before entering the workplace.

“We look forward to continuing this relationship in to the next academic year and hopefully we will continue to see it go from strength to strength.”
