St Peter’s CE junior school was one of many set the theme of ‘thanksgiving’ by Bishop Stephen Conway.

Helen Willatt (RE coordinator/year 4 teacher) said there was a particular focus on members of the community “who help us but who are often forgotten or taken for granted.

“The whole school had specific challenges to achieve each week in the build up to lent. We began by creating a Lenten calendar in each classroom and each child wrote a Lenten promise on a purple fish.”

She said: “Year 3 made Mothering Day’ cards that were distributed to members of ‘All Saints church in Walsoken. Year 4 took part in neighbourhood prayer walk and year 5 and 6 supported the food-bank charity.

“The children in year 5 and 6 led collective worship and encouraged all the school to give as much food as they could to the local food bank in Wisbech.

“Posters were made and distributed and a few weeks later. Keith Aplin collected the goods.”

Finally each child created a personal design to go on a ‘Thank You’ card. Over 100 cards were distributed to members of the local community, who support the school, including members of staff.

Helen said: “We have collected evidence together and are awaiting news of either a bronze, silver or gold certificate from the bishop as recognition of our Lenten achievements.”
