A CYCLIST who biked from Land’s End to John O’Groats raised more than 2,000 to help a boy’s battle against cancer.

Kevin Bates, of West Walton, was a guest speaker at Wisbech Rotary Club’s meeting after pedalling 1,045 miles in 13 days.

The club donated 100 to Mr Bates’ total to help support Adam Bird, an eight-year-old who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, one of the most aggressive and difficult to treat of all paediatric cancers in 2009.

The fundraiser spoke about Adam’s disease, how the money has helped towards his treatment starting in Germany, and the experience of the ride.

Mr Bates, who raised 2,140 in total, said: “I want to express a massive thanks to everyone who sponsored me. My initial target was to raise 1,000 so to double it is very pleasing.”
