A long-standing member of the Wisbech community will return to the role he held for 12 years this Halloween.
On the same day as the Horsefair Shopping Centre’s Halloween spooktacular, Kevin Smith, who stepped down in April this year, will resume his position as centre manager.
Taking place on Saturday October 28 from 3-5pm, more than 60 town centre businesses in the Horsefair Shopping Centre, on High Street, Hill Street, Market Street and Union Street will be taking part in a ‘trick or treat’ event.
He said: “The Halloween event is always incredibly popular, it’s great that the whole town centre gets involved.
“People go to amazing efforts with their fancy dress each year so I can’t wait to see this year’s entries.”
Participating businesses will display a poster of the ‘Wisbech Witch’ in their window, indicating that children are welcome to visit and collect a free treat.
There will be a range of other scary Halloween-themed activities to take part in – all for free, including balloon modelling and a fairground ride.
There will also be a Halloween craft and gift fair taking place in the Horsefair throughout the day, as well as a fancy dress competition.
The Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Steve Tierney, will be choosing the winner at 4pm on the Market Place – there’s even a prize for the best dressed adult.
Other events will be taking place throughout the town as part of the Wisbech Town Council & Friends’ Tremble Trail.
The Market Place will be home to the House of Shadows and Madam Woo’s fortune telling, alongside spooky dance performances from the Nine Lives Theatre Group.
The Rose & Crown Hotel is also hosting the Samhain Witches’ Festival with magical, mystical witchy wares to browse and craft stalls to visit from 11am until 4pm.

In April, Kevin Smith said: “It has been an absolute honour.
“I’m incredibly proud of the achievements I’ve made at the Horsefair and how much the centre has grown.
“I’ve made some great friends during my time here and one of the biggest perks of my job was walking around the centre talking to shoppers and chatting to regular visitors.”
