A 52-year-old Wisbech man who assaulted a 16-year-girl he allegedly wanted to engage in a sexual relationship has been jailed for 24 weeks.

Gordon Sage assaulted the youngster when he turned up at her home drunk, and demanded to speak to her.

He had previously phoned the girl in early hours of the morning, saying he wanted to see her naked, and said he wanted a sexual relationship, Fenland magistrates were told on Tuesday.

But solicitor John Clarke said Sage denied he wanted sex with the girl, but only wanted to share a friendship with her.

During a fracas at her home on July 23 he grabbed the teenager by her arms and tried to push her.

And when he was asked to leave, Sage threw an 11-year-old girl into the kitchen, and she collided with the cooker.

Sage, of Beechwood Road, had previously admitted assaulting the two youngsters.

In a statement to police, the teenage victim had said: "Ever since I have known Gordon he has shown an interest in me that I am not comfortable with.

"He spoke to me in a sexual way and wanted to start a sexual relationship. He said he wanted to see me in bed. On one occasion he telephoned me at 2am to ask what I was wearing, and said he wanted to see me naked."

Prosecutor Craig McDougall told the court: "He barged into a family home, verbally and physically assaulted a 16-year-old girl and took his rage out on an 11-year-old who had nothing to do with it."

Mitigating, Mr Clarke said Sage had drunk eight or nine pints before the incident, and his problem was being unable to cope with alcohol.

"It was an unprovoked attack. But he does not accept he had a crush on this girl," he said. "He wanted to have a friendship with her.
