DANIEL Edwards was subjected to abuse before he punched his former friend Kelvin Barritt in the face, Fenland magistrates heard.
"He felt he was provoked, he was walking through the Horse Fair in Wisbech when his victim called out names and made aspersions against his mother," explained solicitor John Clarke.
Edwards punched Mr Barritt hard in the face, splitting his lip.
Edwards, 21, of Mill Close, Wisbech, admitted assault and was given a one-year community order with supervision, and ordered to pay £60 costs.
