RESIDENTS in Wisbech have been urged to keep doors and windows closed - and to security-mark laptops - after a number of burglaries in the past month.
Sector inspector Andy Sullivan said all the burglaries have seen thieves enter homes, via unlocked or open doors and windows, and target laptops.
He said: "If you have a laptop make sure you take its serial number and take a picture of it or, better still, use a crime prevention marking tool such as Smartwater or similar.
"These devices are available from the one-stop shops, the Safer Fenland Partnership and us."
Insp Sullivan also advised residents to back up data stored on laptop hard drives, in case it gets lost or stolen.
"If you don't, you will lose your laptop and everything on it," he said. "That includes family photographs and any work or information you have stored on it.
"Insurance companies may not pay out if your laptop is stolen from your house when it was left insecure.
