AN inquest is to be held into the death of a pensioner who was attacked by another resident in a Wisbech care home 15 months ago.
Two days have been set aside for the hearing into the death of retired railwayman Arthur Thomas Woods following extensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death at the Edendale Care Home, Walsoken.
The inquest will take place on February 1 and 2 at Fenland Magistrates' Court.
Mr Woods, 86, died on October 27, 2005, in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. A notice placed by his family in this newspaper stated he had died "five days after receiving serious injuries in a sustained attack".
An inquest was opened and adjourned. Cause of death was given as "pneumonia, a recent assault causing fractured cervical vertebra and facial injuries, senile dementia and heart disease".
Police confirmed they were investigating the death following a complaint about an incident at a care home, but an Edendale spokesman said it would be inappropriate to comment until completion of the inquest.
Born in Preston, Mr Woods later lived in Boston, and retired to Wisbech with his wife Joan.
Before becoming a resident at Edendale he was a member of Wisbech Probus Club and Wisbech Wine Club.
