A woman from the Fens took part in a sponsored run for a suicide awareness charity after going through the pain of losing her sister 10 years ago.

Helen Denny, pictured with her medal, ran the 10km London Run in memory of her older sister Catherine Thorpe, who committed suicide at the age of 24 in 1996.

Together with her mother Jackie Denny, they raised about £500 for Papyrus, a national charity working in suicide prevention.

Founded in 1997, it focuses predominantly on the emotional well-being of children, teenagers and young adults.

Helen, 31, of Well Creek Road, Outwell, said: "I joined Papyrus shortly afterwards, but this was the first opportunity to raise money for them.

"It was a roasting hot day but there was a fantastic atmosphere. I got quite emotional in the run but it was great."

Helen is an aerobics instructor at Esselle ladies' health and leisure gym in Regal Road, Wisbech, and completed the course in just over an hour while mum Jackie finished in 90 minutes.

Helen said: "I have run for a long time just for pleasure so it was just upping the mileage.
