HUNDREDS of people, mainly youngsters, demonstrated their talents at The Big Draw workshops organised by Vital Communities programme this week.

From toddlers to teenagers, adults to grandparents everyone got stuck in to the painting and drawing at Parson Drove and Wisbech St. Mary village halls on Monday.

Susan Potter from Vital Communities, who helped organise the project, explained: "It's all about the community. The great thing is anyone can pick up a pen and draw. It's free and on the doorstep and is a chance for people to express themselves."

Recycling was the theme of the day. Recycled skittles, jewellery and friendship bracelets were all created. Costume-making and a fashion show was part of the fun along with the drawing, painting, cutting and sticking. Some children built lanterns learning how to use equipment, such as hammers, safely at the same time.

The Big Draw is part of a research programme monitored over several years, seeing how these functions work in the community.

Vital Communities artist Sue Curtis said: "It's about coming along, having fun and making as much mess as they like."

Both workshops were a success with more than 100 people enjoying the fun on offer. Some of the wannabe artists enjoyed themselves so much they went along to both workshops.

One of the parents taking part said: "It's not only good for the children but us parents as well. It gives everyone new and bright ideas.
