A THIEF with a 125 a day heroin habit has been jailed for eight weeks after admitting that he stole nearly 100 worth of computer game accessories from a supermarket.
Benjamin Hales had hidden in a changing room as he ripped security tags off the X-Box items, and then put the stolen goods into a rucksack.
At the time of the offence, 22-year-old Hales, of High Road, Gorefield, he was still on licence, after being released from an earlier jail sentence.
His solicitor had pleaded with magistrates not to send him back to prison, but to get him assessed for drug treatment.
“This person has a deep drug problem that needs to be dealt with,” said John Clarke. “A short term of custody is not going to solve this problem.”
