A MAN was killed and three people seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on the A1101 near Newton yesterday (Tuesday).

The head-on collision between a blue Citroen Xantia and a silver Kia Sedona happened at about 4.30pm, about one mile away from the Chapel Road junction.

A 29-year-old man from Cambridge, the front seat passenger in the Xantia, was treated at the scene by paramedics and was flown to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by the Air Ambulance, but died of his injuries.

The driver of the Xantia, a 24-year-old from Cambridge, and a rear seat passenger, a 44-year-old from Bury St Edmunds, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. A second rear seat passenger, a 21-year-old man from Soham, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Sedona, a 39-year-old woman from the Wisbech area, also suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who witnessed this collision or saw either of these vehicles involved just prior to the collision should contact police."
