FURNITURE maker James Green has scooped a Medal for Excellence for his outstanding work.

The former Isle Campus College of West Anglia student pipped other entrants to land the City & Guilds Medal for Excellence for his outstanding performance in the processing and manufacturing sector.

The coveted medals have been awarded every year since 1878 with the Medals for Excellence programme rewarding talented people who have displayed exceptional standards as students or educational professionals.

A judging panel said: "James is an excellent candidate and has well-presented evidence. It is good to see the comprehensive detail of the furniture pieces."

On hearing of his award, James said: "It's the best thing that has happened to me so far in life, as far as education or work is concerned.

"After leaving college I didn't go to university, but now I have won this award, I have started applying for a degree in furniture design and craft and hope to go on to do an MA.

"This award and the Isle Campus furniture team have completely turned my life around.
