APPEARING on a catwalk in front of hundreds of people at a star-studded event could prove to be a daunting task for even the most professional of models.

But for Fenland great-grandmother Josie McClinton her modelling debut is even more remarkable as she joined a group of exceptional women and men who took part in the Breast Cancer Care's glittering annual London fashion show on Wednesday.

All the models, including Mrs McClinton, who is 68 today, have one thing in common, they have all bravely fought back against breast cancer.

The aim of the show, which is now in its 10th year aims to demonstrate that anyone can feel confident and look amazing after breast cancer surgery, regardless of age or background.

Mrs McClinton, of Leverington, said she was apprehensive, but looking forward to taking part in the show.

She said: "I just want people to know that they can come through the c-word (cancer) and with a better attitude and also be very uplifted by the experience of it, because they have beaten the cancer."

Mrs McClinton was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and had a full mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery.

She said she wanted to show other women that there is life after cancer and to help anyone who may concerned about reconstructive surgery.

She added: "I just think if you have a positive outlook it can help you to get better."

She said she decided to take part in the show with a friend who also had breast cancer, but unfortunately her friend had to drop out because she had to continue with her treatment.

A spokesman for Breast Cancer Care, said: "With the support of her family, friends and breast cancer care, Josie and her fellow models are taking positive strides forward and offer a powerful and encouraging message to people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer."

Breast Cancer Care is the UK's leading provider of information and emotional support for anyone affected by breast cancer.

The fashion show took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

The glamorous event was attended by a host of high profile supporters of the charity including Geri Halliwell, Jemma Kidd and Mariella Frostrup.

High street designers will transform the models in to stunning catwalk stars, who will then take to the floor in the latest fashions.

The event was screened later on the shopping channel, QVC .
