POLICE answered a 999 call from Karen Waller within 60 seconds, and found her crying hysterically after being assaulted by her boyfriend, a court heard.

She told police that Scott Hennells had punched her in the eye and around the head - and she was forced to climb out of a window to escape from him.

On Wednesday 21-year-old Hennells admitted assaulting Ms Waller on August 30, and further admitted stealing almost £80 worth of groceries from Asda in Wisbech a month later.

Sentencing was adjourned until November 1.

Mitigating, Roger Glazebrook said the couple were reunited, and Ms Waller was pregnant.

"He is sorry for what he did to her, and accepts his responsibility," he said. At the time of the shop theft, Hennells' benefit payment was late, and he needed to get some food.
