A GIANT ear was among the guests at a charity fun day held to celebrate the refurbishment of an opticians and hearing centre in Wisbech.

Specsavers, in Market Place, unveiled its new look - complete with the launch of a new hearing service - with a fun day in aid of Help the Heroes.

Mike Avery, store director, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to give our customers a new-look store and want to thank them for their continued support over the past eight years.

“We have chosen to raise funds for Help the Heroes by offering specs MOTs in exchange for donations, as it’s a charity close to many people’s hearts.

“We hope our customers enjoy our improved facilities, which offer a greater selection of specs, two new testing rooms bringing our total to four, and free hearing testing facilities.

“We are also pleased to announce that five new members of staff are to join the team due to our store expansion.”

The modernised store includes a state-of-the-art ‘fundus camera’, which helps in the early diagnosis of eye conditions and is a potential sight-saver.

As well as a visit from the giant ear and a raffle, Saturday’s fun day also saw residents given free hearing tests. Hearing tests will continue to be free at the store.
