AN awareness event to support the elderly in beating distraction burglary will take place in Wisbech on Saturday (February 17).

The event, run by PCSOs Sue Clarke and Tracy Smith, will be held in the mobile police station outside the Londis shop in Tinkers Drove.

Officers will be on hand throughout the day to offer crime prevention advice and raise awareness of the techniques offenders use and the precautions people should take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

A free property post-coding service will also be available to members of the public.

PCSO Sue Clarke said: "Distraction burglary is a problem across the county and one that police are focused on reducing.

"The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of distraction burglaries and offer our help and support.

"I would urge anyone who wants to find out more about what they can do to reduce the risk of becoming a victim or would like property post-coded to come along to the mobile station.
