IN a bid to regain community spirit a Fenland village held its first giant garden and garage sale last Saturday.

Marie Coles, who helped organise the Guyhirn event, said: “I wanted to get the community spirit back and thought of the sale. It’s quite similar to the one they have in Friday Bridge and was just as successful.

“It was going extremely well until we had the horrific rain but everybody stayed with their stalls.

“Around 30 to 40 people were selling things, my neighbour was quite successful raising more than 200 but I only managed to get 30.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback and more people have said they will get involved next year as we plan to make it an annual event. Trying to get back the village spirit is quite hard but we are getting there.”
