A FABULOUS fashion show put on by students this week took place at The College of West Anglia's Isle Campus in Wisbech.

The three-day show was the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their creative collections and be recognised for all their hard work.

The first half of the show boasted the talents of first and second year students who had spent the previous nine months producing their outfits.

Every five minutes a new collection appeared, keeping audience member's eyes glued to the stage.

The first fashion items to appear were trench coats, whilst an upbeat version of 'Singing in the Rain' played in the background. The music created a great atmosphere as the girls strutted their stuff, umbrellas at the ready. Blues and creams were common colours throughout.

Some of the more eye-catching pieces came out next, following the theme of an 'English Country Garden.' With bright, floral patterns and flamboyant colours, these summer dresses really stood out. Many of the girls wore waist belts and footless tights, making a real fashion statement.

Amongst the outfits was also a section dedicated to tropical themed hats and fascinators. The students were encouraged to design these hats based on the rainforest.

Michelle James, the course director, said: "The show just gets better and better every year. First year students have to make their first garment after just eight weeks!"

The second part of the show was dedicated to individual student's final pieces, before they leave for university.

Each individual had created three separate outfits, each following a particular theme. Charlotte Pask, a graduate, created 'Ghetto Glamour' designs using lots of silk fabrics in deep purple and gold colours.

A more traditional collection named 'A Grand Day Out' was created by Bethany Gorman. Dressed in polka dots and pearls, all three models looked sophisticated and stylish.

Michelle said: "All of the students graduating the course have got in to their chosen universities."

The BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing course is recognised both nationally and internationally due to the success of its students. It is the only course of its kind in the region.
