LARGE quantities of drugs and cash were seized today from a flat in Wisbech after a dawn raid by police. A father and his two sons were questioned on suspicion of dealing Class A drugs.

One man was arrested and the others are being questioned after police forced their way into the first floor flat in Kinderley Road.

Fifteen officers took part in a 7am briefing at Wisbech Police Station before mounting the raid some 40 minutes later.

Officers were acting on a tip off from a member of the public and the raid follows a high profile appeal through the Wisbech Standard by sector inspector Robin Sissons.

He revealed that in recent weeks more than 30 letters- most of them written anonymously- outlined residents' suspicions of drug dealing in the town.

"Yes, Wisbech has its problems but we can solve them," said Insp Sissons who led the raid.

First officers on the scene quickly broke down the door to the flat and woke one of the occupants asleep in one of the bedrooms. Inside a safe in the bedroom police discovered wads of bank notes and substances - wrapped up and thought to be class A or B drugs. These have been sent for analysis.

Insp Sissons said his officers were determined to stamp out the "nice little honey pot of crime" that surrounds some of the addresses which are being targeted by police.

The flat is owned by Roddons Housing Association and two staff members attended the raid.

A Roddons spokesman said: "As a result of today's actions, Roddons Housing Association intend to serve a notice of seeking possession.

"We hope by doing this we are sending out a message to our tenants that we shall not tolerate anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

"People that do so will lose their home.

Insp Sissons said later that in a second flat they found a bag containing white powder believed to be amphetamine and a second man and a woman have been arrested.

A PCSO told the Wisbech Standard she had just returned from doing house to house inquiries in the area and “residents are really happy with the way the police have been so positive in the area.”

Insp Sissons added: “One resident gave her some information on where another drug dealer may be. It’s like a snowball turning into an avalanche.”
