RODENTS, reptiles, birds and farm animals helped draw in the crowds at the College of West Anglia on Saturday, when it held an open day for prospective students.

The Wisbech campus' animal care unit's open day was greeted with fine weather, while the chance to get close to a number of animals attracted potential students and families.

Animal care staff and students were on hand throughout the day to talk about course opportunities. Students' work was also on display for people to look at.

Lisa Prescott, programme manager for the college's animal care courses, said: "It was a very successful day. We had a good turnout; several members of the public and a few families who all enjoyed meeting the animals.

"We had a few people apply for animal care courses and we even interviewed a couple of the students on the day."

A number of prizes were also up for grabs for children, from a raffle and a colouring competition.
