FOOTBALL fans across Fenland got the chance to hold the FA Cup yesterday - and it was all thanks to us.

We arranged for the famous trophy to be brought down to the Hares’ GER Ground ahead of Saturday’s mouth-watering FA Cup Preliminary Round derby between March Town United and Wisbech Town.

Supporters, players and club officials from both teams posed for pictures with the cup before fans of the Hares and Fenmen took part in a penalty shoot-out.

Wisbech secured early bragging rights ahead of tomorrow’s game by slotting six penalties past former ‘keeper - and current March Town United shot-stopper Lea Jordan - to win the shoot-out.

Jordan, who is suspended for Saturday’s clash, said: “It will be a big game and I’m really hurt I can’t play in it.

“It’s brilliant that the FA Cup was here. I was happy to come down and play a part in that – even if I didn’t dive all over the place in the shoot-out!”

Youngsters Liam Knight and Jordan Bliss scored both of their penalties while Stephen Campion and Craig Brighty netted one of theirs. Jonny Pearce took Wisbech’s other spot-kicks.

March’s two-goal hero was Saturday’s match sponsor Kerry Rutterford of Lenford Electrical and Plumbing. Chase Hinson also scored one of his two penalties.

Jo Anderson and Lewis Welcher - siblings of March players Stu Anderson and Marc Welcher - took part in the shoot-out as did Colin Ruddock.

March chairman Phil White said: “Having the trophy here has only made the game bigger than it was already.

“Without a shadow of a doubt it’s the biggest game since I’ve been March chairman - I can’t wait for it.”
