PLANS for a new pavilion in a village once plagued by arsonists will be unveiled on Sunday as part of the village gala.

The pavilion at Tydd St Mary playing field was burned down in an arson attack three years ago.

Wayne Dale, a member of the Tydd St Mary playing field committee, said: "We have got the plans for the new pavilion finalised.

"If any contractor is interested in putting the time in to build it they can come along. There will be a sign with the plans on."

The pavilion on the playing field in Rectory Road was damaged beyond repair by a fire in May 2003 during a spate of vandalism in the village.

Nearly £50,000 damage, which included Tydd Utd football team's equipment, was recorded at the time despite attempts to rescue stock inside.

The playing field committee has been fund-raising ever since to replace the building, through fetes, the gala, bring-and-buy sales, and the village music festival.

A 'Koti Cabin' was then supplied by B&Q as a temporary meeting and changing room instead of paint to refurbish the pavilion.

Playing field committee secretary Sally Davies said: "It will be through lottery grants and local council grants that we pay to get the building."

Money raised from the gala, which takes place on the playing field on Sunday from 11am-4pm will go towards new equipment for the community.

There will be a rodeo bull ride, bouncy castle, around 30 different stalls, and a barbecue and beer tent for the day.

There will also be a performance by Kirton Brass Band.
