A parade of more than 80 young people and a team of memorial motorcyclists celebrated the Freedom of Wisbech with a special march.

The county’s army cadet and Cambridgeshire 876 remembered paraded around town to celebrate the honour.

Colonel Mark Knight, of Cambridgeshire Army Cadets, said: “The cadets were awarded the Freedom of Wisbech in 1996 and I was in that first parade.

“In 2017 it is actually the first time we have exercised that freedom . We are honoured to be able to do so.”

They paraded from St Peter’s Church car park, through the market place and museum square and finished with a review and reading out a scroll with refreshments at St Peter’s and speeches afterwards.

The members of Cambridgeshire 876 Remembered were given the Freedom of Wisbech in 2015.

They formed because Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) records show that 876 officers and soldiers of The Cambridgeshire Regiment, who were killed during WW1, have memorials at home and abroad.

The fallen are named in 208 cemeteries across six countries and the intention of the riders is to honour all 876.
