A room in a Wisbech nursing home is to be given a makeover - to take it back in time to the 1940s.

Irene Carter, a senior diversions therapist at Orchard House in Moneybank, is hoping the wartime front room will bring back fond memories for many of the home's 67 residents.

She hopes to have the room ready by early next month for an official opening by the Mayor of Wisbech, by which time she will have hung curtains, installed a fireplace, put in a cabinet full of memorabilia and some old chairs.

"The cushions won't match, but that's deliberate," says Mrs Carter, who is pictured with the plan. "After all this was wartime and that's how it was."

Paste and SPAM sandwiches and angel cakes will be on the menu for next month's unveiling.
