Beautiful flower arrangements that marked poignant historical events decked the aisle of Tydd St Giles Parish church this weekend.
It was the first year that the church took on different themes for their flower arrangements, including a commemoration to local people who fought and died in the First World War.
“The main carpet in the nave gave the impression of mud and mainly green to mark the end of the war, with each year marked with flowers,” parishioner Jane Melloy, said.
“There was a poppy for each person from the village who had died, to remember them. There were 18 in total who died, with the youngest soldier being just 19-years-old.”
Commemorative floral displays also marked the NHS celebrating 70 years, the Suffragettes vote and those who fought in the army and navy.
The village’s WI turning 90 and the anniversary of the community centre also had an arrangement.
The flower arranging began last Tuesday, before they were put into pride of place in the church over the next few days.
Children from Kinderley School played their part in the arrangements too, and held a special Harvest celebration at the church on Thursday afternoon, before singing at Evensong last night (Sunday September 30).
Jane continued: “This was very poignant this year and the first time we decided to do different flower themes.
“We had lots of people come over the weekend with more than £1600 raised which will go towards the church.”
A garage sale was also held across the weekend, with the festival running from Friday until yesterday.
A special catholic mass will also take place in the church tonight (October 1).
