FIREFIGHTERS are monitoring a straw stack fire in a Fenland village after tackling the blaze throughout the night.
Two crews from Wisbech spent the night at the scene of the fire in Cross Drove, Tydd St Giles, where a 100-tonne stack and 100sq metres of stubble were ablaze.
Firefighters used beaters and chromes to fight the flames and stayed at the scene until 6.30am today.
A crew returned to the scene at 9am, when around 15 tonnes of straw was still burning.
A fire service spokeswoman said the fire will be left to burn itself out.
