Teenage tales are needed for Talkin’ Bout My Generation, a Heritage Lottery-funded project with support from Market Place.

Organisers are calling on baby boomers to recall their teenage years in March, Wisbech, Mildenhall and Brandon for the initiative, which comes to St Peter’s Lodge, Wisbech, from 2-5pm on Saturday (April 29).
“We are tickling memories with custom built music booths, old 45s, clothes, photos and even smells and tastes of the era,” said project co-ordinator Hilary Cox Condron.
“From the first record bought, memories of playing in local bands and stories of clubs, gigs and fashions, we are creating an exhibition, film, publication and archive to celebrate the musical history of The Fens and Brecks.
“Whether you were dancing at the Corn Exchange, The Rose and Crown or Trumpet Hall, heading off to The KitKat club, letting it hang with Euphoria, buying singles from Clarkes, waxing your quiff or soaping your spikes... we would love to hear your musical memories of Wisbech.

“Please have a rummage through old photo albums and bring any photos or memorabilia, as well as stories to tell.”
There will be a display about ‘Dancing at The Corn Exchange’ by local historian Kevin Rodgers on the day and Angie will be demonstrating how to make a dirndl skirt (big netted skirts from the 60s) and backcombing hair into a beehive.
Any musical stories and memories of Wisbech in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will be added to the archive website: www.mygeneration.ccan.co.uk They will also be part of an upcoming exhibition and book celebrating the musical history of The Fens and Brecks.
