On a glorious Sunday morning 17 Fenland runners competed in the Abbey 10k race whilst is was a Fenland family affair for seven runners in the Abbey 2.1K Fun Run both hosted by Ramsey Road Runners on June 24.

The multi-terrain fast and flat 10K course secured three personal bests and two age category wins.

Martin Jennings was first home in a time of 36:16 and 10th overall out of 390 finishers.

First female home was Nicky Jennings in a time of 47:00 and came first place in her age category as did Jane Greenwood in a time of 51:41. Personal bests were celebrated by Nigel Seale in a time of 43:36 and Lucy Hicks in 1:03:10 whilst Chris Andreson smashed his personal best by 23 seconds coming in in 1:04:23 and this was after participating in the Fun Run.

Young seven-year-old Henry Pittock stormed home with a sprint finish in the Fun Run coming in 10:52 and averaging 8:15 minute miling shortly followed by mum Sarah Gauvin.

Bernie Anderson and and Madison Hicks worked as a team 12:39 and 13:17 respectively followed by mum Gilly Anderson in 13:28 and father Chris and younger son Billy in 17:53.

Andy Hicks supported his son Jacob who truimphed in a time of 20:30.

Meanwhile over at Whitemoor, nine members of Fenland Running Club took part in the annual Whitemoor 5 Miler on the outskirts of March.

The course is a mixed terrain consisting of a nature reserve, farm tracks, a riverbank track and a short section of road in the middle.

With plenty of support from Marshall’s and spectators, Andy Plume was the first Fenlander home out of 194 finishers.

Barbara Welbourn, and Karl Baxter (who normally competes in ultra-marathons), were trying a five-mile race for the first time.

The club was successful in winning three age category prizes - David Brammer first in male age group 55-59, Ian Milburn first in male age group 70+ and Jane Greenwood first in female age group 60-64.
