PROSPECTIVE applicants for two £80,000-a-year posts, and a £70,000-post, at Fenland District Council are being invited to view a five-minute promotional video to encourage them to apply.

The video is contained within a new recruitment mini site created by the council on their website under the heading 'Just Another Day at the Office'.

The council says the vacancies are for qualified people who are "ambitious, creative, care about people and want to work in a can-do, one team that values people".

A council spokesman says one of the £80,000 posts is "cost neutral" since the new director of finance and information will be a partial replacement for outgoing finance chief Mat Taylor.

"It is a different role than Mat as key elements of his job will be in the hands of other people in the management team," he said.

Mr Taylor emigrates to Australia this month but will continue to be paid nearly £20,000 a year to work for the council for one day a week.

Also up for grabs is a new £70,000 head of development and an £80,000 director of economic and community development.

Tim Pilsbury, chief executive, said: "Fenland has reached the enviable position of being identified nationally as a very high performing and financially prudent council and we have taken stock of how we can continue to drive forward improvements that will boost the economic fortunes of the district as well as the quality of life for the people who live here.

"It is particularly important in this difficult economic climate that we really focus on attracting inward investment, creating more and better job opportunities and improving the health and happiness of local people.

"The three posts we are currently advertising for are an essential ingredient of our senior management restructure, which has been designed to address these core issues.

"The Director of Economic Community and Development is a beefed-up replacement for a currently vacant post.

"With the credit crunch affecting all areas of the country, we see it as particularly important at this time to actively seek out inward investment as the driver for improving the quality of life for the people of Fenland. The successful candidate will also have the job of helping to tackle the pockets of extreme deprivation within the district."
