POLICE were forced to use a Taser gun to capture a Rottweiler which attacked two motorists along the A47 between Guyhirn and Wisbech.

The road was closed for several hours on Wednesday and, after police failed to catch the dog using sedatives, turned to the Taser.

The Rottweiler was taken to Tejaycey kennels, near Wisbech, after it was caught. Police are now trying to trace the owners.

A police spokeswoman said: "We consulted a vet about how to catch the dog. The vet gave us 14 tablets and told us to use seven in a bowl of food.

"When the first seven didn't work, we gave it a second lot of seven and the dog started to look sleepy. However, it was very nervous and adrenaline kicked in, counteracting the sedatives.

"By this point it was nearing 5pm, the road had been shut for quite a long time, and the final option was to Taser the dog."

If the Rottweiler is not collected within seven days, staff at Tejaycey will hope to find it a new home.
