THE sounds of the bagpipes greeted market traders and shoppers in Fenland when a Highland pipe band visited to provide entertainment.

Peterborough Highland Pipe Band performed at March and Wisbech Markets on a sunny Saturday to attract shoppers to the stalls.

Five of the band's drummers, three pipers and three dancers performed to the crowds and raised about £175 for the band. The money will be used by the band to buy new uniforms for younger members.

Sharon Ellwood, the band's PR officer, said: "Fenland District Council got in touch with us and asked if we wanted to play at the Saturday markets in March and Wisbech. We have now done so three times this year."
