A FATHER was arrested in front of his young daughter following a roadside incident involving a West Norfolk councillor.

Stuart Christeson was held by police for seven hours following a row in Marshland St James with his neighbour, Councillor David Markinson.

The arrest came after vehicles being driven by Cllr Markinson and Mr Christeson were involved in a collision. Also in Mr Christeson's car were his partner, Linda O'Keefe and their three year-old daughter.

Ms O'Keefe said: "We had just dropped our son off at school, and were driving back home along Rands Drove."

Three police cars were called to the incident on Monday at about 9.30am. Mr Christeson, 29, was arrested on suspicion of affray and common assault and taken to King's Lynn police station for questioning.

He was later released and bailed to report to King's Lynn police station on May 15.

Officers spent much of the morning speaking to Cllr Markinson inside his Alder Lodge home and left shortly after lunchtime. Neither they nor the councillor were prepared to comment.

A police spokesman said: "A 29-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of affray and common assault and released on police bail.
