RENOWNED eel catcher Peter Carter battled freezing cold weather as he filmed a new BBC programme alongside actress Sheila Hancock.

A chilly start, however, on Tuesday at 7am was accompanied by the ideal back drop for filming - a perfect sun rise, frosty fields and mist on the River Cam.

Mrs Hancock - who has visited the Fens in the past while doing theatre - was shown the beauty of the area by Mr Carter on his punt.

After filming, Mr Carter said: "Sheila is a wonderful lady and a delight to work with, even if it was freezing."

The programme, which revolves around poetry, will be shown on BBC2 in May. Mrs Hancock turned to poetry following the death of her husband, the actor John Thaw.
