Ex-Dagenham and Redbridge player organises Wisbech football tournament

FUTURE World Cup stars were challenged to beat the bobby at a charity football event.

Ex-professional player turned PCSO Steve Ross organised the tournament in Emneth to help net cash for the local side.

The weekend of goal mouth action helped to raise money for equipment, First Aid training and Football Association courses for club volunteers.

PCSO Ross also believes the event will also foster better community links between residents and the police.

The former Dagenham and Redbridge player said: “Beat the Bobby started as a joking gesture but we quickly realised it would be great for the kids and the wider community.

“It really came to life and gave people a chance to come and talk to me about any crime issues in an unintimidating setting.

“It helps to break down barriers and make police officers more approachable.”
