PARAMEDICS called to deal with drunken Helen Juby in Bridge Street at Wisbech struggled to hold her upright.

And as soon as they let her go, she slipped down the wall and back on the floor, Fenland magistrates were told on Wednesday.

Thirty-year-old Juby was unable to stand, she "was completely incapable through alcohol," said prosecutor Craig McDougall.

Juby, who is homeless, admitted being drunk in a public place, and was fined £60.

"Police were alerted by ambulance staff who were dealing with a woman who had collapsed near a pub," said Mr McDougall.

"It was obvious she was under the influence of drink, she needed to be held up, she was unable to stand on her feet."

Mitigating, solicitor Roger Glazebrook said Juby had been homeless since falling out with her parents.

"She had been living with a group of addicts, she did not get into drugs but did have an alcohol problem," he said.

Juby was befriended by a man who offered her accommodation and help with her alcohol problem, but on the day she was drunk they had a row and he had asked her to leave.

"She took to drink, because that is the way she deals with things," explained Mr Glazebrook.

"She accepts she has a problem and is trying to get off drink, she knows it is something she had got to do.
