A 26-year-old man is in a critical condition in Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, after his car left the road at Guyhirn and ended in a field.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident on New Year's Day which saw the A47 closed for five hours while investigations took place.

It happened at about 7.45pm close to Bretts Transport Yard and the driver of the blue Ford Fiesta from Leicester suffered serious injuries.

Sgt Tim Elliott, from the roads policing unit, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was on the A47 close to Bretts Transport Yard at around 7.45pm on Monday. Did you see the collision or the Ford in the moments leading up to the collision? Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital in determining what happened."
