A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing through the railings near to the entrance of Wisbech Park overnight.

The incident took place at about 12.37am. The driver was tracked down and failed a breath test - he was almost two and a half times over the limit.

A police spokesman said: “Police officers were called to an RTC this morning at 00.37 hours on Park Avenue, Wisbech. A male driver had crashed into railings near to the entrance of Wisbech park.

“The driver then drove across the park. Officers tracked down the vehicle and its driver. A breath test was carried out and the driver failed the test by blowing 86ugs. The legal drink drive limit being 35ugs.

“The driver was arrested and taken to the Police Investigation Centre at King’s Lynn. Enquiries are still on going at this time.”

A resident described what she saw on Facebook and suggested speed bumps may be necessary to slow down drivers.

She said: “The railings were damaged last night when a silver car flew down Park Avenue, skidded, crashed into the railings and ended up facing the wrong way up the street.

“Then it drove back up the road, only to drive back through the park a minute later on the other side of the railings, with its lights off, before speeding off into the park. Police were there in a couple of minutes.

“I live in Park Avenue and frequently hear drivers going too fast - maybe time for speed bumps?”
