A BANGER racer was airlifted to hospital after suffering severe head and arm injuries in a smash at the Norfolk Arena.

A police helicopter flew two Magpas Helimedix emergency medics from Cambridge, landing in the middle of the Arena, in King’s Lynn.

The Helimedix team provided intensive care, anaesthetising the 28-year-old man and putting him on a life support machine.

The Helimedix team then escorted the patient, who was flown by the police helicopter to Addenbrookes Hospital.

A Magpas spokeswoman said: “His condition is described as critical but stable. We have no other details at this time.”

The Magpas’ Helimedix team were in Cambridge when the accident happened at last night’s banger meeting at the Norfolk Arena.

Police cleared pedestrians at Parkers Piece to allow the police helicopter to land.

The police helicopter picked up Dr James French and paramedic Jo lambert from Parkers Piece and transported them rapidly to King’s Lynn, where they landed in the middle of the stadium.
