An important development site on the Wingland Enterprise Park in Sutton Bridge, has been sold to an unnamed buyer.

The park, created through a consortium led by South Holland District Council with support from the European Union, was sold by Savills after only four weeks on the market.

It is close to EDF's Sutton Bridge Power Station, the principle occupier. This combined gas turbine station, located on the east bank of the River Nene, reportedly cost about £337million to construct and a further planning application has recently been lodged for a second power station on the site.

Wingland Enterprise Park has recently been named in the Local Plan as a major employment area where general industrial uses are deemed appropriate. It already benefits from a new estate road connected to the A17 and is home to companies such as Geest's Wingland Foods operation, Solanum Ltd, Halifax Transport and Howling's Transport.

Paul Giles, associate director at Savills Nottingham office, said: "The site comprises approximately 54.08 acres (21.88 hectares) of commercial development land which forms the main land holding within the Wingland Enterprise Park and was offered for sale with a guide price of £2.1million for the freehold.

"Commercial land of this size is a rare commodity in today's buoyant property market and we received strong interest from national developers and investors. Our clients, who are based overseas, are delighted with the speed of the sale and the price achieved exceeded all expectations.
