WITH work on one major project well under way, and two projects set to start in the next few weeks, the development boom has finally hit Wisbech.

Steel framework has been put up as part of the largest of the three developments, the £50million Nene Waterfront Regeneration Project.

Work in revamping part of Nene Parade has already been completed, with the pedestrian-only zone reopened to the public.

Meanwhile, construction vehicles have begun clearing the way for the new Lidl supermarket in Cromwell Road. The new store, opposite Sandown Road, will create 40 jobs.

And just a few hundred yards along the road mobile homes have arrived at the Wisbech Stadium site ready for work to begin on the £18million redevelopment project which will provide a multi-storey leisure complex, including a bowling alley and multi-screen cinema, as well as a restaurant electrical store and furniture store.

A hoarding has also been put up at the front of the stadium, showing an artist's impressions of how Cromwell Park, being developed by Vrynwy Estates, will look once work is completed and ready for opening in time for Christmas 2008.
