THE derelict Flower Pot pub in Wisbech was gutted by fire in the early hours of today (Friday).

As many as 25 firefighters from Wisbech, West Walton, Outwell and March attended the blaze at 2.20am. The turntable ladder was also called from Dogsthorpe.

The fire destroyed both floors in the two-storey pub and firefighters used four jets and one hose reel to extinguish the blaze. They returned to base at 6am.

The pub has been declared structurally unsound by building control.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "A fire investigation is now taking place to understand the cause of the fire."

Last night's blaze came just over a week after fire gutted the Phoenix Hotel in North Brink, Wisbech, and a month after the fire which destroyed Constantine House in Nene Quay.
