CONTRACTORS are preparing to start demolishing the derelict Flower Pot pub which last night became the latest building to go up in smoke in Wisbech.
The Elm Road building has been declared structurally unsound by building control and is due to be demolished.
As many as 25 firefighters were at the scene at one point tackling the blaze, which was first reported at 2.20am.
Crews from Wisbech, West Walton, Outwell, March and Dogsthorpe in Peterborough used four jets and a hose reel to extinguish the blaze and were at the scene until 6am.
Earlier today, a fire service spokeswoman said: "A fire investigation is now taking place to understand the cause of the fire."
Last night's blaze was the third major fire in Wisbech in the last six weeks.
Last Thursday morning the Phoenix Hotel and Restaurant in North Brink was destroyed by fire and at the end of March a fire which destroyed Constantine House in Nene Quay.
