A sports pavilion has been sealed off by police after a man was stabbed, suffering serious injuries.

Police have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the attack, which happened in King’s Lynn this afternoon (Tuesday, July 7).

Officers were called at 12.35pm to reports that a man had been stabbed.

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

The Kingsway Pavilion, which stands in the playing fields between Riversway and the A1078 Edward Benefer Way, opposite Lynn North fire station and the St Edmunds Academy, has been cordoned off.

An area of the car park by the council-owned changing rooms and a number of portable buildings have also been sealed off, as detectives begin their enquiries, while uniform officers stand guard at the scene.

A lime-coloured Marlin mountain bike and Nisa carrier bag lay on the ground within the police cordon.

Det Sgt Alex Gilmour said: “A cordon is currently in place at the scene and whilst enquiries are in their early stages it is believed those involved are known to each other.

“It is understandable an incident such as this will cause concern within the local community however extra officers will be on patrol over the coming days to provide reassurance to residents.”

One woman living near the scene said: “I’d seen police in the park, then I heard on the radio someone had been stabbed.”

The arrested man, who has not been named, is in custody at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre where he will be questioned later.
