DAVID Bonnett kicked his ex-partner's car when they got into a row on the evening she took their children to visit him.

He had stayed indoors when they arrived so he could avoid an argument but when Lisa Hewitt refused to hand over the youngsters to a neighbour, he went out to the car.

Bonnett put his hand into the vehicle's open window, and then shouted and kicked the BMW, causing a dent. And as Ms Hewitt got out of the vehicle he kicked the car door, and it hit his former partner.

Appearing at Wisbech courthouse on Wednesday, Bonnett, 34, of Tinkers Drove, Wisbech, admitted causing £1,000 damage to the car and assaulting Ms Hewitt on July 11.

"Both parties are volatile, and know that if they get together they argue," said solicitor Anita Waterman.

"She pushed the car door against him, and he pushed it back, there was no intention to hurt her. He kicked out because he was not going to be violent towards her."

Bonnett was ordered to do 70 hours of unpaid community work and pay £300 compensation and £50 costs.
