RESIDENTS have won the day to stop a Fenland pub from using the premises for a new lap dancing club.

A three hour meeting of the Fenland District Council Licensing Committee concluded with a decision by councillors to refuse the application by the Clarkson Arms, Wisbech.

A crowded public gallery at the meeting held in Wisbech were delighted with the news: many of those attending had written to oppose the bid by publican Patrick Strickwood.

Four objectors spoke at the meeting which had been called after opposition mounted, including a letter from Cambridgeshire Police also opposed to lap dancing at the pub.
