FENLAND is set to be ahead of the competition tonight to announce the first declaration in Cambridgeshire.
NE Cambs - where seven candidates are vying for the seat previously held by Malcolm Moss- hopes to have a declaration by 1.30am.
If so it will beat Peterborough where a result is not expected before 2am and well ahead of Cambridge where the winner is not expected to be announced until 3am.
In Huntingdon the votes will not be counted until tomorrow morning.
Polling stations across Fenland remain open until 10pm and the ballot boxed will all be taken to the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech.
Tonight will be the end of an era for Tim Pilsbury, chief executive of Fenland District Council and returning officer for NE Cambs as he retires next month.
