The Christian churches in Wisbech united for a walk of witness in the town centre on Good Friday.
The variety of Christian congregations together proclaimed and demonstrated the essential truths of our faith, boldly proclaim that ‘we are not ashamed of the gospel - it is the power of God to everyone who believes’.
Up to 100 people met for a brief service led by Rev. Kevin Newton in the Baptist Church.
This was followed by a procession, for about an hour, around the centre of the town concluding in the Market Place.
During The Walk of Witness the procession stopped five times to pray, sing and read the scriptures together. A cross with a ‘crown of thorns’ was carried at the head of the procession.
Matt McChlery, of Wisbech Churches Together, said: “It was well attended (around 100 people) and was a strong display of the unity amongst the Wisbech churches as we shared the Easter story with others from our community.”
Many participants took the opportunity to share their faith by distributing hundreds of small leaflets that simply portrayed the gospel using four stark graphic signs and relevant scriptures.
As in previous years this event enjoyed good support from the churches and although the skies were overcast, it did remain dry. But as has been said before, considering what Jesus Christ bore for us, we would walk and witness whatever the weather.

Many church organisations around the country take the opportunity on Good Friday to share the Easter message in a public setting. This has been an annual event in the Wisbech Churches Together calendar for many years and continues to be strongly supported.
Wisbech Churches Together is a fellowship of churches that worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour according to the Scriptures. There are currently 12 member churches and 3 organisation-members.
